Excitement Builds for SM Entertainment's New Boy Band

Speculation is mounting among K-pop enthusiasts as rumors swirl about a potential new boy band from SM Entertainment. Industry insiders suggest that the company is gearing up to unveil this group later this year, following a rigorous preparation period. According to an anonymous source, the timing of the debut is strategically aligned with the label’s significant milestones. While the exact date remains undisclosed, it is believed that the preparation phase, typically spanning around five months, points towards a second-half unveiling.

A former Hybe trainee named JJ has become the subject of intense speculation regarding his possible inclusion in the new lineup. The 19-year-old Japanese-American performer recently caught attention during SM Entertainment’s “SMTown Live 2025 in Seoul” concerts. As part of the SMTR25 ensemble, which featured 25 male trainees performing hits like SHINee’s “Lucifer” and EXO’s “Growl,” JJ’s presence was notably highlighted through close-up shots during the event. Fans first became familiar with JJ through Hybe’s YouTube series “Trainee A,” where he participated as one of seven finalists before reportedly transitioning to SM Entertainment.

The anticipation surrounding the new boy band comes at a pivotal time for SM Entertainment, which is currently focused on launching its new girl group, Heart2Heart. The company’s co-CEO Tak Young-jun had previously hinted at plans to introduce two new K-pop groups annually under its expanded production framework. The strategic delay in debuting the boy band until this year may have been influenced by the desire to synchronize it with the label’s 30th anniversary celebrations, ensuring the group receives optimal attention and support. This approach underscores the company’s commitment to nurturing talent and delivering exceptional entertainment experiences.
